This song reminds me of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush singing Don't Give up. Just the same feeling of that another Duet that they did together. I need to hear the rest of the songs to rate the whole album. Yes like others said I can hear Peter, Sting and Bonos voice when he sings.
  • The Sound of Art

Quick version: Making Mirrors is worthy of a buy and countless listens. Favorite tracks: Eyes Wide Open, Smoke and Mirrors, Bronte, Easy Way Out Long version: There’s a lot more to Gotye than just Somebody I Used to Know. Don’t get me wrong, that song is a work of art—its simple yet charmingly memorable melodies to the tasteful world drum flares are all crafted masterfully, but it is by no means the only gem on this album. This body of work is rhythmically diverse, and features a very “found” texture, meaning that Gotye actually searches for the right sounds to use in the real world, and then samples them—and it’s amazing! That being said, it functions far beyond the experimental level too, revealing a great deal of musicality and compositional prowess. Gotye has a great sense of call/response, dynamics, shifts, and a great deal more with conventional and nonconventional terms alike. Of Wally De Backer’s three albums thus far, this is his crowning achievement. All of his albums have had an exquisite artistic flare, but never have his riffs and melodies been so well-composed. I’m blown away by nearly every piece on this album, and even my least favorite ones are impressive. I honestly can’t think of a single noteworthy drawback to this album. Maybe you won’t really like it if your personal taste differs, but don’t confuse that with the musical illiteracy of some of the other reviews. If you want a generic pop banger, look elsewhere. This is art dagnabit! It’s been unclear whether or not there will be another Gotye release. Last I checked he was having trouble finding the sounds he wanted, and another release may not actually happen, which would break my heart. If it does though, he could probably up his game to six out of five stars. If not, he left off on more than a few good notes.

And I listen to Katy Perry, Nicki Manaj, Ke$ha, Flo Rida, etc, and I L O V E Somebody That I Used To Know. I love Dance and Electronic, blah blah blah, but I enjoy the occasional slow song popping up on my playlist. I'm a pretty pop princess and I don't like many slow songs, just like most kids, but this is a slow song even a pretty pop princess such as myself can't get enough of, even in 2015.
